If you find yourself wandering through the picturesque streets of Lecce, Italy, do not miss the hidden gem that is Antica Pucceria Giannone dal 1941. As you step inside, you’re greeted by a cozy atmosphere that is both welcoming and quaint. The space may be small, but it’s brimming with character, reflecting the rich history and tradition of this family-owned operation. The owner, though he may speak little English, communicates warmth and hospitality, making you feel right at home.
The menu here is centered around the exquisite puccia, a traditional Puglian sandwich that is the star of the show. Each sandwich is made to order, meaning every ingredient is fresh and at its peak of flavor. The bread is perfectly crusty on the outside and soft on the inside, providing a delightful contrast that enhances the hearty fillings. Imagine sinking your teeth into a warm puccia filled to the brim with sliced meats that have been prepared right in front of you—every bite is a celebration of taste!
Beyond the puccia, guests rave about the incredibly reasonable prices, with options ranging from €6.50 to €7.50. This means you can try different varieties without breaking the bank, making it an ideal spot for a quick yet satisfying lunch. The service speed adds to the charm—patrons like Kristin report that meals are served in a flash without sacrificing quality or taste.

Cute and cozy little place for a quick bite. This is a family owned business and the current owner is the 3rd generation. Although he does not speak much English, he is extremely friendly and helpful. The best part is the food, La Barese with stracciatella cheese, one of the most delicious panino I have ever tried. The price is also extremely fair. There is no cover charge, even if you seat on a table and eat.

Must visit! One of those places that has everything, panino are the most delicious, blond ale homemade beer and kind host. Really! panino is great, we tried a few and they are really good. The Lecce has a great street food offer which in my opinion is a better choice than a restaurant. If you are visiting the city for a day or two eat street food.

My favorite puccia in Lecce was here - and we’ve tried many! The owner made it as you ordered it so all ingredients were freshly prepared. Our meat and cheese were plentiful and tasted so good! I would highly recommend coming here. The store is quite unassuming and easy to miss - glad we didn’t. Given the chance, I would come back for more!
